Tribute to gymnast Věra Čáslavská on FDC from Czech Republic

Hommage à la gymnaste Věra Čáslavská sur FDC tchèque

Le 12 septembre 2016 eurent lieu dans le bâtiment historique du théâtre national de Prague, les funérailles de Věra Čáslavská (née en 1942) considérée comme la plus grande gymnaste tchécoslovaque de l'histoire.
Le 3 mai 2017, la poste tchèque a mis en circulation un timbre (16 CZK) consacré à Věra Čáslavská, conçu par Zdeněk Netopil à partir d'un joli portrait datant de sa période d'activité au milieu des années 1960 (à noter le blason de la Tchécoslovaquie sur son épaule gauche).
Un grand merci Bret pour ce FDC officiel (tirage : 4700), avec TAD de Prague et gravure (par Bohumil Šneider) montrant la gymnaste à la poutre, concernant ce joli timbre !
On September 12, 2016 took place, in the historical building of the National Theatre in Prague, the official funeral ceremony of Věra Čáslavská (born in 1942), considered as the greatest Czechoslovak gymnast in history.
On May 3, 2017, the Czech Post issued a stamp (16 CZK) dedicated to Věra Čáslavská, designed by Zdeněk Netopil from a beautiful portrait dating back to her period of activity in the mid-1960s (to note the coat of arms of Czechoslovakia on her left shoulder).
A big thank you Bret for this official FDC (print run : 4,700), with cancellations from Prague and engraving (by Bohumil Šneider) showing the gymnast in the balance beam exercise, regarding this nice stamp!


Entre 1959 et 1968, Věra Čáslavská a été sacrée 11 fois championne d'Europe, 4 fois championne du monde et 7 fois championne olympique (3 médailles d'or aux jeux de 1964, 4 aux jeux de 1968).
Lors de ces jeux de 1968 à Mexico, Věra Čáslavská montra clairement son opposition à l'invasion soviétique de son pays, lors des cérémonies de remises de médailles.
Elle a été également désignée 4 fois meilleure athlète féminine de l'année en Tchécoslovaquie.
Après la Révolution de velours en 1989, elle a été présidente du Comité olympique tchécoslovaque (entre 1990 et 1996) et membre du Comité international olympique (entre 1995 et 2001).
Between 1959 and 1968, Věra Čáslavská was crowned 11 times European champion, 4 times world champion and 7 times Olympic champion (3 gold medals at the 1964 games, 4 other ones at the 1968 games).
During these 1968 games in Mexico City, Věra Čáslavská clearly demonstrated her opposition to the Soviet invasion of her country during medal ceremonies.
She has also been nominated 4 times as Best Female Athlete of the Year in Czechoslovakia.
After the velvet Revolution in 1989, she was President of the Czechoslovak Olympic Committee (between 1990 and 1996) and member of the International Olympic Committee (between 1995 and 2001).
